Introduction of electronic invoicing

All EU member states were required to implement this invoicing system into their local legislation by January 1, 2013. This ensures that companies can send electronic invoices to the government using European and international standards.
Different rules apply to central and sub-central government agencies. Receiving and processing compliant electronic invoices has been mandatory for central public authorities since April 18, 2019. The same applies to sub-central authorities since April 18, 2020.

Receiving and processing electronic invoices
So far, the system for receiving and processing electronic invoices is not yet automated, but invoices are processed manually. Economic operators submit their invoices electronically on a voluntary basis via the e-Invoicing Access Point of and through ARIADNI. ARIADNI is the gateway portal of the Cypriot government.
Cyprus has developed a central e-Invoicing platform to process electronic invoices. Once this platform becomes operational, which is expected to be in January 2022, the electronic invoice processing process will be updated and automated.
